Cosmetic Tattoo FAQ
DO I NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT?
Yes. All appointments are to be made using my online book system. This can be found here
HOW LONG DO APPOINTMENTS TAKE?
Your initial appointment can take up to 3.5hrs long. Your touch up appointment will vary between 2 to 2.5hrs long.
HOW LONG DOES THE COLOUR LAST?
The longevity of colour in the skin cannot always be predicted. Some skins hold colour longer and stronger than others, while others fade leaving a light residue in the skin. Pigment may fade or change according to metabolism, lifestyle, skin type, medications, age, smoking, alcohol and sun exposure.
As every individual is different you may need to come back sooner for a touch up treatment.
WHEN DO I NEED A TOUCH UP? And WHAT DOES A TOUCH UP INVOLVE?
Cosmetic Tattooing is a two-part process and is necessary to have your touch up appointment to perfect your tattoo.
A touch-up appointment is recommended around 6 weeks of your initial appointment.
Colour retention varies depending on the individual and client compliance of home care instructions. Some people can have a resistant skin type where the ink doesn’t like to take.
On rare occasions you may need more than one touch up for your cosmetic tattoo.
WHAT MAINTENANCE IS INVOLVED?
Maintenance needs will vary from person to person, and we find some clients will need more visits than others.
Some may need annual colour boosts and others may only need 18 month colour boosts or longer.
CAN I GET LIP BLUSH IF I GET COLD SORES?
Yes however this must be fully healed before the treatment. If you have EVER had a coldsore you must be prescribed antiviral medication by your GP to take for a few days before and a few days after your your lip treatment. Not doing so can cause an outbreak and you may experience more sensitivity during the treatment and it can affect the retention of the pigment. Once the treatment is complete you can also use a topical coldsore cream to help prevent an outbreak.
IS IT PAINFUL?
The process isn't as painful as you'd imagine. Firstly, anaesthetic is recommended and shown how to apply at the appointment. The sensation is similar to a little scratch but you should not feel any discomfort. Most clients find the procedure less painful than plucking or threading. Pain thresholds vary from each individual person and every effort is made to ensure you remain comfortable however a little discomfort is to be expected.
WHAT TO EXPECT AFTER THE PROCEDURE?
Your semi permanent makeup will appear dark and more intense than expected in the first few days. This will gradually lighten during the healing process. Redness and swelling is normal but minimal for your brows. Lips are likely to have some residual swelling and can chap, looking dry and flaky.
WHAT AGE DO YOU HAVE TO BE?
You need to be over 18 to get cosmetic tattooing done.
WILL YOU TATTOO PREVIOUS WORK?
If you already have your brows or lips tattooed, even if faded, please contact me before booking an appointment. Results on such cases cannot be guaranteed. Performing the procedure on brows or lips tattooed by another tech are charged at full price.
WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO KNOW?
To ensure the best retention of color, it is advisable to exfoliate the lips during the week prior to your lip blush tattoo procedure by using a soft toothbrush, a washcloth or wet paper towel. After exfoliating, apply Vaseline or a lip moisturizer to lips. Do not wax above lips or use any bleaching products within a week of procedure.
